Construction Material Calculator Guide: Bricks, Cement, Sand & Steel (2026)

Quick answer: A 5 marla house in Pakistan needs roughly 50,000 bricks, 600 cement bags, 1,400 kg of steel saria, 1,800 cft sand and 1,100 cft crush for the grey structure — about PKR 45–55 lac at 2026 rates. Estimate each material exactly with our free construction calculators below.

Guessing materials is how Pakistani house projects run out of money halfway. Order too little and your slab pour stops at 4 pm; order too much and the surplus hardens in the rain. This guide shows the quick reference numbers contractors actually use — then hands you a free calculator for each material so you can turn estimates into exact quantities for your own drawing.

The 30-Second Version: Rules of Thumb

Bricks~5 per sq ft (4.5″ wall) / ~10 per sq ft (9″ wall)Brick calculator
Cement (slab)~0.23 bags per cft of M20 concreteCement calculator
Sand~20 cft per ton; 1.5× crush volume in concreteSand calculator
Crush (bajri)~0.84 cft per cft of M20 concreteAggregate calculator

Plaster~1 bag + 4 cft sand per 100 sq ft (12 mm, 1:4)Plaster guide

Rules of thumb get you within 10–15% — fine for budgeting, not for ordering. When money is actually leaving your account, run the exact numbers with the calculators: they take your real dimensions, apply the brick calculation formula and mix ratios, and give quantities in the units you buy in (bricks per 1,000, cement per bag, steel in maund, sand per cft).

Bricks: How Many Your Walls Need

Brick count is wall area × bricks per sq ft. The standard Pakistani kiln brick (9″ × 4.5″ × 3″) laid with mortar gives roughly 5 bricks per sq ft on a 4.5-inch (single-brick) wall and 10 per sq ft on a 9-inch (double-brick) wall, including wastage. A typical 5 marla house carries 45,000–60,000 bricks across ground-floor walls, sills and lintels.

For the full formula with worked examples — including how mortar joint thickness changes the count — see our brick calculation formula guide, and check today's kiln prices in the brick rate in Jhelum update.

Cement: Bags for Slabs, Beams and Plaster

Cement demand splits into three jobs:

  • RCC slab (M20, 1:1.5:3): about 23 bags per 100 cft of slab. A 5 marla slab (~1,350 sq ft at 4″) needs roughly 190–230 bags in one pour.
  • Masonry mortar (1:4): about 0.9 bags per 1,000 bricks.
  • Plaster (12 mm, 1:4): about 1 bag per 100 sq ft of wall.

Which brand? We stock Cherat, Fecto and Flying Pakistan as our core cement, plus Bestway and Maple Leaf white cement — see our cement brands guide. The one rule that matters more than the logo: never mix brands in a single slab pour — setting behaviour differs slightly between brands.

Sand and Crush: Volumes That Surprise Everyone

Concrete is roughly 1.5× more sand than crush by ratio (M20 is 1 cement : 1.5 sand : 3 crush), but sand also goes into every wall's mortar and every wall's plaster — that's why sand quantities end up close to crush quantities for the whole house. A 5 marla project typically lands around 1,800 cft of sand and 1,100 cft of crush (slab concrete, bedding and filling included).

Quality matters as much as quantity: washed Chenab sand for concrete and plaster, Margalla crush for slabs. Current prices per cft and per trolley are in the sand & crush rate guide.

Steel (Saria): The Budget-Deciding Material

Residential slabs in Pakistan use about 1 kg of steel per sq ft of slab — so a 5 marla slab takes roughly 1,200–1,500 kg (30–38 maund). Weight by size follows the d²/52.5 formula (kg per foot): a 4 sutar bar weighs 0.89 kg/ft. Grade 60 is today's default for slabs and beams.

Two buying rules: order all steel for one slab from a single mill batch, and check the bundle tag weight at unloading — "maund" quotes hide 2–3% losses if you never weigh. Details by sutar size and spacing are in the steel calculator.

Worked Example: 5 Marla House Grey Structure (2026)

Bricks (awwal)50,0006.5 – 7.5 lac
Cement600 bags8.8 – 9.4 lac
Steel saria (Grade 60)1,400 kg3.6 – 3.9 lac
Sand1,800 cft1.6 – 2.2 lac
Crush (Margalla)1,100 cft1.9 – 2.3 lac
Labour + miscellaneous—22 – 29 lac
Total grey structure—45 – 55 lac

This is the same structure our grey structure cost calculator produces from your covered area — with 2026 rates you can adjust line by line. The finishing stage (paint, tiles, fixtures, wood) is separate: see construction cost per marla for both stages side by side.

How to Estimate Your Own House in 15 Minutes

  1. Measure your plot and planned covered area — the land area calculator converts marla/kanal plots to sq ft.
  2. Run the brick calculator wall by wall (or area × 5 for a quick start).
  3. Run the cement calculator for each slab and add plaster bags from the plaster guide.
  4. Run the steel calculator per slab with your drawing's spacing.
  5. Cross-check the total with the grey structure calculator — it should land within 5–10% of your line-by-line numbers.
  6. Take the printout to your thekedar meeting. Quotes that can't be explained line-by-line are quotes to walk away from.

Material Estimating — FAQs

How much material for a 10 marla house? Roughly double the 5 marla figures: 95,000–110,000 bricks, 1,100–1,300 cement bags, 2,600–3,000 kg steel, with grey structure cost around PKR 85 lac – 1.05 crore at 2026 rates.

Should I order all materials at once? No. Buy stage by stage — bricks and sand for foundations first, then steel and cement per slab. Prices move but so does your design; stage buying matches cash flow and prevents storage losses.

Are online material calculators accurate? For standard construction they're within 5–10% — accurate enough for ordering with a wastage margin. Site conditions (bad soil, design complexity, wasteful workmanship) cause most variance, not the math.

What's the single biggest estimation mistake? Ignoring wastage. Add 5% on bricks, cement and steel and 7–10% on sand and crush. Running short mid-pour costs more than the margin ever will.

Delivery Areas & Charges

Plain and simple — here is exactly how delivery works at Khokhar Traders.

  • Where we deliver: Locally within about 10–15 km of Jhelum city centre — Jhelum City, Civil Lines, Bilal Town, Kala Gujran, Haji Aima, Kotla Aima, Katchery, Mohamdi Chowk, Chishtian Mohallah, Madina Town, CITI Housing, and many more areas around Jhelum city centre. A little further out? We may still be able to deliver with extra charges — just ask.

  • Delivery charges: Agreed at the time of order. Share your location with our team and we calculate the exact distance, then confirm a fair delivery charge before anything is loaded. Prefer to save on transport? You are welcome to arrange your own transport.

  • Ex-shop rates vs delivered rates: Shop materials — cement, iron rebars (sariya), chips, tile bonds, paints, hardware — are priced at ex-shop rates: either we deliver at the agreed charge, or you arrange your own transport. Loose materials — sand, aggregate (crush), soil and gassu for foundation filling, and bricks on a full trolley — usually come with delivery included.

  • Full-truck cement delivery: We can deliver a full truck of 350–500 cement bags straight to your site (if a bigger truck can safely reach it). A small loader carries only 25–35 bags per trip — one full truck saves you many loader runs and real money on local transport.

  • Rates change daily: A rate confirmed over the phone is valid for that time of day only. A rate is locked with an official order and advance payment — we confirm the final rate and delivery charge together before dispatch.
