Sariya Weight Chart: 3 Sutar to 8 Sutar in KG

Last Tuesday a caller from Haji Aima asked one question before ordering anything: “3 sutar saria ka wazan kitna hota hai? Munshi ka bill check karna hai.” Fair question. Steel is billed by weight, so it helps to know the weight of one piece yourself.

Here is the chart we keep at the counter. It uses the standard theoretical weight, which every mill’s chart also starts from.

The chart (theoretical weight)

SutarInchesApprox mmKG per footKG per meterOne 40-ft piece
3 sutar3/8"~9.5 mm0.170.55~7 kg
4 sutar1/2"~12–12.5 mm0.27–0.290.89–0.96~11 kg
5 sutar5/8"~16 mm0.481.58~19 kg
6 sutar3/4"~19 mm0.682.23~27 kg
7 sutar7/8"~22 mm0.912.98~36 kg
8 sutar1"~25 mm1.173.85~47 kg

One sutar means one eighth of an inch. So 3 sutar is 3/8 inch — close to the 10 mm size that drawings usually call out.

The one-line formula behind the chart

Weight in kg per meter = (diameter in mm × diameter in mm) ÷ 162. For 12 mm: 12 × 12 = 144, and 144 ÷ 162 ≈ 0.89 kg per meter. Multiply by 0.305 to get kg per foot. That is the whole “secret” — every chart is just this formula written out.

Why the challan weight can differ a little

The chart is theoretical. The piece in front of you is real. Ribbed bars, mill tolerance and batch variation mean a 40-ft piece of 4 sutar can come in a little over or under the chart number. You will also see charts disagreeing with each other on 4 sutar — some list 12 mm, some 12.5 mm — which is why the row above shows a small range instead of one fake-precise number.

This is also why, when a trolley of sariya leaves for someone’s site, the count of pieces and the weighbridge slip travel together. Weight by chart for estimates; weight by scale for the bill.

Which size for which work?

There is no one answer — the structural drawings and your civil engineer decide. What we see most often around Jhelum: 3 and 4 sutar for rings, stirrups and distribution bars; 4 and 5 sutar in lintels and slabs; 6 sutar and above in columns and beams. That is an observation from the counter, not a design rule.

We deal in Grade 60 and Grade 40 sariya — these are the two grades the local market asks for. If you want to understand the grades properly, we wrote a full guide: Steel/Saria Grades in Pakistan.

Weight is only half the bill

The other half is the rate — and that number changes day to day, sometimes morning to evening. We do not print a rate table here because yesterday’s table would mislead you. Call or WhatsApp +92 331 5083 648 for today’s rate; a rate we quote on the phone is good for that day, and it locks only when you place an official order with advance payment.

Sariya is shop-stocked material, so rates are ex-shop. We do deliver within roughly 10–15 km of Jhelum city — loading and delivery charges are agreed at the time of order, and for further areas it might still be possible with extra charges.

Before you start

Every house is different. Whatever the chart says, confirm sizes and grades with your engineer or contractor before ordering — then call us for today’s rate and we will load honest weight.

Delivery Areas & Charges

Plain and simple — here is exactly how delivery works at Khokhar Traders.

  • Where we deliver: Locally within about 10–15 km of Jhelum city centre — Jhelum City, Civil Lines, Bilal Town, Kala Gujran, Haji Aima, Kotla Aima, Katchery, Mohamdi Chowk, Chishtian Mohallah, Madina Town, CITI Housing, and many more areas around Jhelum city centre. A little further out? We may still be able to deliver with extra charges — just ask.

  • Delivery charges: Agreed at the time of order. Share your location with our team and we calculate the exact distance, then confirm a fair delivery charge before anything is loaded. Prefer to save on transport? You are welcome to arrange your own transport.

  • Ex-shop rates vs delivered rates: Shop materials — cement, iron rebars (sariya), chips, tile bonds, paints, hardware — are priced at ex-shop rates: either we deliver at the agreed charge, or you arrange your own transport. Loose materials — sand, aggregate (crush), soil and gassu for foundation filling, and bricks on a full trolley — usually come with delivery included.

  • Full-truck cement delivery: We can deliver a full truck of 350–500 cement bags straight to your site (if a bigger truck can safely reach it). A small loader carries only 25–35 bags per trip — one full truck saves you many loader runs and real money on local transport.

  • Rates change daily: A rate confirmed over the phone is valid for that time of day only. A rate is locked with an official order and advance payment — we confirm the final rate and delivery charge together before dispatch.

Good to Know Before You Act

Two honest notes about everything published in our guides.

  • Rates are market estimates and they change daily: any price or rate mentioned in our guides is an indicative market estimate for planning only — material rates in Pakistan fluctuate, sometimes daily. It does not matter what a guide, blog or old quotation says — the final and correct rate is always the one our team confirms with you on the day. Call or WhatsApp +92 331 5083 648 for today's exact price. A rate is locked only with an official order and advance payment.

  • No warranty on results — always speak to a professional first: quantities, mix ratios, material suggestions and methods described in our guides are general educational guidance, not instructions for your specific site. Results after mixing or using any material in any ratio depend on site conditions, water quality, handling, curing, storage and workmanship — we do not warrant or guarantee any result arising from following general guidance. Before you act, always speak with your engineer, contractor or a qualified professional — or ask our team for guidance on materials.
